The Parish Church of Almodôvar occupies the site of a former medieval temple dedicated to Saint Ildefonso, mentioned in documents from the 13th and 14th centuries.
The current building dates from 1592 and was designed by the architect Nicolau Frias. Over the centuries, it underwent several expansion and restoration campaigns, reflecting different styles and periods of local history.
Inside, notable features include the gilded woodcarved altarpieces, the ceiling painted by Severo Portela and the baptistery decorated with the depiction of the Baptism of Christ.
In 2012, it was classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
