Dating from 1936, the Municipal Market stands out for its Art Deco style, visible in the ironwork of the doors and in its straight, geometric and symmetrical lines.
Above the three porticos are tile panels by Jorge Colaço, a renowned artist responsible for iconic works such as the panels at São Bento Railway Station. The tiles depict rural activities such as harvesting, cork extraction and shepherding.
This is both a commercial and social gathering space, where visitors can find stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as regional products such as cheeses, traditional sausages and traditional bread.
